A Legacy of Community & Culture
Preserving Italian Heritage & Promoting American Ideals
Founded in 1958, the Roman Cultural Society of Central Illinois (the “Society”) was established as a non-political, non-profit organization and community of Italian-American men who were inspired to preserve their heritage and actively promote American ideals. Over its history, this mission has been realized through Society relationships, civic initiatives, cultural events, charitable contributions, and more.
Past and present membership is comprised exclusively of men of Italian descent, or men whose spouse is of Italian ancestry, united in their motivation to support the Society’s social, cultural, and educational initiatives.

Visionary Founders Shaping Community Through Tradition & Unity
Committed to upholding their Italian culture and traditions and embracing “Americanism”, founding fathers Charles Salvo, C. Victor Cardosi, Carl Angelo, Frank Saputo, John Egizii, Joseph DeMarco, Frank Calandrino, Dr. Armando Chiaradonna, Robert Vespa, and others laid the groundwork for the Society’s vision. All Society members – past and present – work or have worked as individuals and a collaborative force to initiate, integrate, and orchestrate numerous community initiatives throughout its history, including the Ethnic Festival (1974-2014), one of Springfield’s greatest social and multi-cultural events.
